The Truth About Video Over IP Networks!  PowerPoint Presentation

Presenter

John L. Price, Executive Vice-President of Providea, Inc.
Read about Mr. Price HERE and Providea HERE.

IP is consuming everything, and true convergence is upon us. After years of hype, VoIP (voice and video over IP) is rapidly becoming areality for an increasing number of enterprises. Additionally, a converged network infrastructure extends well beynd cost savings into operational efficiencies and greater productivity. Yet many organizations, particularly the early adopters, have struggled to achieve their desired performance of their voice and video over their existing networks. One major obstacle for most organizations is that very few enterprise data networks were designed with the needs of realtime applications in mind. Is it realistic that we expect these real-time applications to work in an environment that was designed for something else?

This presentation offers a common sense approach for all enterprises that will be confronted with challenges include:

  • How are real-time applications (voice and video) different than other data applications?  Within the real-time category, how does voice differ from video?
  • What does and enterprise need to do to leverage both the short term and long term benefits of a converged network? What are the common mistakes that many enterprises have made? Why do some companies have better levels of success than others?
  • A basic framework for allowing each enterprise to define their own unique needs based on the following five areas: Security, Quality, Cost, Ubiquity, and Scalability.
  • An overview of observed trends and new technologies that are likely to impact your long term migration to IP communications.
  • Discuss some of the unique challenges facing telecommunications deployments in Oregon (and other rural communities). What can be done to address these challenges?
  • Q&A
