BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kim
Hoffman, Chairperson, currently is the Outreach and Telehealth
Coordinator for the Information Technology Group (ITG) at Oregon Health &
Science University (OHSU). After attending Southern Oregon University, Kim
began her career at OHSU in 1976 in the Patient Business Office. In 1985,
she joined the Hospital Information Systems Department (HISD) to assist with
the implementation of the SMS (Shared Medical Systems) patient and clinical
management systems. After taking on the role of Interim Director for HISD in
1988, she served as the Applications Manager for HISD until 1993 when the
hospital and university systems groups merged to become the Information
Technology Group. Kim served as Interim CIO for OHSU in 1995, and then
became the Director of Applications for ITG until 1999, when she moved into
her current position. Kim currently participates as an ex-officio member of
the Oregon Telecommunications Coordinating Council (ORTCC), serves on the
Health-Education Committee of the ORTCC, and is the current chair of the
Telehealth Alliance of Oregon (TAO).
John
Irwin, Vice-chairperson, is a Community Informatics Consultant. He
works with communities to help them use technology for economic development
and quality of life enhancements. John chairs the Oregon Telecommunications
Coordinating Council (ORTCC). Other board affiliations Vice-chairman of the Area Health Education
Center of southwest Oregon (www.healthyoregon.com). John is a founder of the
Living Well in Southern Oregon Program (www.sohealthyoregon.org). He
brings 30 years of diverse technology, healthcare and business experience
gained from both the public and private sectors.
Jo
Bell, Treasurer, is Health
Policy Advisor for the Department of
Community Colleges and Workforce Development.
She previously held positions as the Acting Executive Director Oregon
Healthcare Workforce Institute, Shared Executive for the Healthcare
Workforce Initiative, Office of the Governor / Oregon Association Of
Hospitals & Health Systems, and Director, Legislative Support Services
Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems.
Catherine
Britain,
Secretary
runs CSB Consulting from her home in Medford, Oregon. She provides support
to organizations and communities who want to build telehealth networks, and
develop applications. Additionally, CSB Consulting offers telehealth policy
development and grant writing support for telehealth projects. She is also
the Assistant Project Coordinator for the Oregon Health Network FCC Pilot
Program and serves as the chair for the TAO reimbursement workgroup.
Catherine serves on the board for the Northwest Regional Telehealth Resource
Center, an organization that provides technical assistance and support to
new and existing telehealth programs in eight states. Previously she was
the program director for RODEO NET, a telemental health program based in La
Grande, Oregon for 10 years. Catherine has been active in regional, state
and national groups that promote rural mental health, rural
telecommunications and telehealth. Among them the Association of Telehealth
Service Providers and the American Telemedicine Association, the Board of
the National Association for Rural Mental Health, and the Oregon
Telecommunications Coordinating Council. She is a co-founder and the
immediate past president of the Telehealth Alliance of Oregon.
Robert "Bob
Duehmig currently is the
Communication Director for the Oregon Office of Rural Health. After
attending Indiana University, Robert worked as an academic advisor for the
US/UK Fulbright Commission in London. After returning to the US, he worked
in the end user marketing division of Avnet Computer in Culver City, CA. In
1992, he moved to Oregon where he worked on a number of various political
campaigns before becoming Director of Government Relations for the American
Federation of Teachers-Oregon. In 1998, he began working with Congressman
David Wu on issues dealing with labor, education and health care. In 2000,
Robert became the Associate Director of Government Relations for OHSU.
Robert is a past chair of the Oregon Health Action Campaign, Treasurer for
the NW Families Children from Cambodia and the Sabin Elementary PTA.
Robert
"Rob" Myers
is the owner
of R.E. Myers and Associates, LLC in Condon, Oregon; providing lobbying,
interaction management and telecommunications consulting services. He is
also the General Manager of Frontier TeleNet, which is one of the largest
public purpose wireless telecommunications networks in the nation.
An essential element in the Frontier TeleNet network is a layer of
telehealth communications that upon completion will provide
interconnectivity for every public and private health facility in the
region; and connectivity to urban central health service facilities in the
Willamette Valley. This telehealth segment is designed to meet normal daily
service requirements in addition to emergency and/or catastrophic response
capability and capacity. Rob serves by gubernatorial appointment on the
Oregon Telecommunications Coordinating Council and is a past Chair of the
Health-Education Committee.
Rob grew up
in Condon, attending Condon schools and Oregon State University - he is a
lifelong resident of Oregon.
Sandra
Olson
brings
thirty years experience in the health and health education industry. For ten
years, Ms. Olson served as Director of a two county medical clinic service
in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the ten years following, Ms. Olson was
both founder and CEO of a national school-based health education center,
which became one of the largest multi-disciplinary school-based prevention
education organizations in the country. For the last eight years, Ms. Olson
has worked for the Asante Health System in southern Oregon where she serves
as Director of Research and Development. During her almost 30 year tenure in
the health related field, Ms. Olson has administered over hundred million
dollars of private and publicly funded programs and services, many of which
had a focus on telehealth.
Edwin
B. Parker is President of Parker Telecommunications, a consulting
business located in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, since 1989. In previous careers
Parker was a division president for a large telephone company, President,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of a publicly traded telecommunications
company that he had co-founded as an entrepreneurial start-up company, and
(for 17 years) a Professor of Communication at Stanford University. He is
author or editor of many articles and books, including Electronic Byways:
State Policies for Rural Development through Telecommunications, which
was published by the Aspen Institute in 1995. Parker is chair of the
CoastNet committee of the Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County.
Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber named Parker local economic development
leader of the year in 1995. Parker represented the Oregon coast on
the Connecting Oregon Communities Advisory Board. He has served on the
Oregon Telecommunications Coordinating Council since its inception and was
recently reappointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski to a new four-year term
ending in 2010. He was named Man of the Year in Lincoln City in 2006 in
recognition of his local contributions to telecommunications and economic
development.
Jackie
Rice is Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development for
Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon, which is part of the
PeaceHealth System based in Bellevue, WA. She has extensive business
planning, marketing research and strategic planning experience. Jackie
worked with Sacred Heart operations and medical staff to design, plan and
implement a pediatric pilot telemedicine program with Oregon Health &
Science University and is the chair of the regional PeaceHealth telemedicine
committee. Jackie was recently invited to join the Oregon Health Network
Finance Committee. Like others on the TAO Board and across the state, Jackie
is passionate about improving healthcare access for all through telehealth
technology.

Christopher
Tamarin is the Telecommunications Coordinator for the Oregon Economic
and Community Development Department (OECDD) assisting communities with
telecommunications infrastructure and application issues. He has seventeen
years experience in marketing voice and data telecommunications services and
equipment used in small and large communities by multi-location companies,
electric utilities, healthcare providers, schools, and government agencies.
He has an MBA from the University of Nevada and an MS in Telecommunications
from the University of Colorado. He has five years teaching experience at
